Vacuum pumps are used in a wide range of chemical production processes. For processing explosive gases or use in areas with risk of explosion, specially adjusted vacuum pumps are used (ATEX). The pumping of corrosive or aggressive gases is done by special vacuum pumps, either stainless vacuum pumps, SAT (duplex) vacuum pumps, Teflon-coated, or with a special composite surface coating.

Solvent recovery

The production of certain chemical substances first requires the distillation of substances containing organic solvent vapours. Vacuum traction distillation is used to separate these solvents. Suctioned solvents can be separated in the condenser or processed further. The vacuum pumps used are resistant to a wide range of solvents and acids. Usually, ATEX vacuum pumps designed for pumping explosive gases are used.

Vacuum drying

Certain substances need to be de-humidified (either by removing water or solvents). De-humidification takes place in dryers at increased temperature and reduced pressure. An advantage of vacuum drying is the processing of products at lower temperatures, preventing their damage while saving energy.

Vacuum impregnation

Vacuum impregnation starts by placing an object into the impregnation chamber. Air is then removed. Next, the chamber is filled with the impregnating substance. After atmosphere is reintroduced, the impregnating substance will penetrate deeper into the material.

Vaporisation, vacuum distillation, and vacuum drying

This process, which is also called molecular evaporation, is used to separate substances that have narrow boiling point ranges. Such equipment has a special design that only operates properly at specific vacuum levels.
